Dental Fillings
Dental Filling is a part of the restorative dentistry. It is used to repair
minimal tooth fractures, tooth decay or damaged surfaces of the teeth. Dental
filling materials, includes composite, porcelain and silver amalgam.
Tooth sensitivity may result because of enamel loss. Tooth sensitivity
caused by enamel loss can be completely eliminated once an appropriate dental filling
material is filled.
During routine check-ups or at the time of dental emergency visits, the
dentist checks the teeth, gums and the supporting bone structure. The dentist
identifies the number of tooth surfaces affected by decay and then prepares the
tooth accordingly to restore the damaged area. Dental hand – piece or laser is
used to remove the decay or damage. Later, the area is cleansed very carefully
to remove bacteria or debris before the actual restoration gets completed.
Composite fillings are comparatively more expensive than the traditional
amalgam fillings. It is because amalgam fillings require a more sophisticated
procedures, expensive materials and additional dental equipments.
Dental Fillings cost depends on a various factors, including the dentist who
performs the treatment, the location of the clinic, the number of tooth
surfaces that need dental fillings.
It is noted that on an average amalgam fillings last approximately for 10 -
12 years, while composite fillings last up to 7 years.
